About Jannes

I've been interested in history and old things for as long as I can remember. But I've always loved conjuring, mime and theatre, too.
About twenty years ago, I had the idea of combining these interests. To my surprise, audiences enjoyed it just as much as I did. It was meant to be a hobby, but when my job at the time disappeared, I decided to see if I could make a living out of it. It turned out to work remarkably well. I'd invented my own dream job!
Naturally, I also began researching the subject in old books and on the wonderful internet, eager to learn as much as possible about conjurers of times gone by. This led me to join the Conjuring Arts Research Centre in New York, an international institute devoted entirely to the history of conjuring. I also joined Goochelclub Rotterdam, where I could learn from fellow magicians practising today and exchange ideas about the best way to perform a trick.
Alongside performing, I also do a little behind-the-scenes work on (fantasy) events, mainly as a graphic designer. It's a completely different way of being creative.
I live in a late-15th-century house, which I'm gradually renovating and furnishing as a historical medieval home.
