A secret in the monastery

Medieval pamphlet stating: “Dark deeds surround magicians. It is therefore forbidden to amuse oneself with sorcerers, and especially conjurors.”

Jannes developed this Archeon show especially for the site's winter opening, so it can only be seen there. The fact that the performances take place in Archeon's monastery gave Jannes a theatrical idea to play with. Historically, the Church wasn't exactly fond of conjuring (or, for that matter, most other forms of entertainment). Yet we also know that members of the clergy often secretly rather enjoyed it. Jannes de Goochelaar is always a welcome visitor in Gravendam. The baker, the blacksmith and the weaver are therefore keen to watch his conjuring tricks. Fairy gold, invisible playing cards, mysterious little pots… it all looks like sorcery! The brothers aren't at all impressed, and it's right there in their own monastery that Jannes secretly performs his tricks for you.
